DPSCD Virtual School

While we expected most students to return to school face-to-face full time in the Fall of 2021, a key learning from the pandemic was that for some students, virtual learning provides a needed alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar learning environment. Beginning in 2021-2022, DPSCD began full time operation of a standalone virtual school for students in grades K-12. In year one of the school, we offered a menu of standard courses that lead toward graduation requirements but did not offer specialized programs such as IB, AP, dual language, etc. The DPSCD Virtual School was and will continue to be staffed with its own dedicated principal, teachers, and support staff, and will continue to issue grades and credits under its own school code.

As we move into School Year 2022-2023, the DPSCD Virtual School has updated its criteria and eligibility for enrollment.  Students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd must have less than 18 days absent for the previous school year.  Students in grades 3rd through 12th must have less than 18 days absent and must have passed all core academic subject courses for semesters 1 and 2 of the previous school year.   The DPSCD Virtual School is expanding its course offerings and will add business, marketing, computer science and French to its selection.

We have learned that uniformity is essential to improving productivity.  All teachers will use Schoology as their platform for providing and receiving curriculum materials from students.  All teachers will use TEAMS to provide live instruction every school day.  All teachers will publish their office hours during the normal school day to conference with students and parents to promote progress towards mastery of all standards.  

We are so very excited about the start of School Year 2023!!!!!  We have the structure in place to continue our journey toward our goal of becoming the number one K-12 institution of learning in the City of Detroit and State of Michigan.  We are humbled that you have continued to entrust your children in our care as we travel along this path together.
