Who We Are
Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) School Safety Volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for our students, staff, and families. Our volunteers partner with school personnel to promote safety, assist with arrival and dismissal procedures, monitor hallways and common areas, and help ensure that every student feels secure throughout the school day.
By serving as positive role models and extra sets of caring eyes and ears, our volunteers strengthen the connection between schools and the community. Together, we work to maintain a culture of respect, responsibility, and safety that supports academic success and student well-being across all DPSCD schools.
What We Do
Typical volunteer activities include:
-
Greeting and guiding students, parents, and visitors during arrival and dismissal times
-
Monitoring hallways, entrances, and common areas to promote safe behavior
-
Assisting with traffic flow and student transitions between classes or school events
-
Supporting school safety drills and awareness initiatives
-
Providing a positive, reassuring adult presence throughout the school day
Through these efforts, School Safety Volunteers help foster trust, safety, and community pride across DPSCD schools — ensuring every student feels protected, supported, and ready to learn.
